OUR STORY
In 2016 curator Vivienne Gamble and artist Jo Dennis saw an opportunity to create an event within the artistic community in Peckham during the second edition of Photo London. We rented Copeland Gallery warehouse in Copeland Park and collaborated with neighbouring galleries to create a short festival that would take place over 24 hours - opening at 6pm on Friday night and closing the following day at 6pm. That’s how we got our name, Peckham 24.
The original aim of Peckham 24 was to unite artists, galleries and curators with a mission to shine a spotlight on cutting-edge contemporary photography. This aim, which puts the artistic programme at the heart of what we do, stays true today. Peckham 24 exists to support the photographic community by providing artists with opportunities to exhibit, share and discuss new work.
Peckham 24 is a not-for-profit event that has survived on the time and generosity of supporters and partners who believe in what we do. We would not still be here today if it was not for the generous financial support of Simon Bishop. We are also deeply honoured to have been chosen by the V&A Parasol Foundation for Women in Photography as the host venue and production partner for the V&A Parasol Foundation Prize for Women in Photography.
